HikingLaurie's is located in beautiful Cheticamp on the western gateway to the Cape Breton Highlands National Park, which is the most scenic part of the Cabot Trail.The park is one of the last remaining tracks of protected wilderness in Nova Scotia.
It offers 27 hiking trails,12(listed below) of which are within a 1/2 hour's drive from Laurie's ,ranging from 20 minute strolls to challenging overnight adventures.
Moose, black bears and bald eagles are just a few of the wildlife you'll discover along the way.For the non-hikers,the many look-offs offer breathtaking views where one may see pilot whales frolicking or minke whales breaching in the coastal waters.

- L'ACADIEN.Steady climb to panoramic views of the coastline and canyon. Distance: 9.6km(6 mi) loop trail.Time: 3.5-4 hours.
- TROUS de SAUMONS.River trail,bird-watching,mountain bikes permitted,rough sections.Distance: 13km(8 mi) return.Time 4.-5 hours.
- LE CHEMIN du BUTTEREAU.Acadian history,views of the river.Connects to trail # 5.Distance: 5km(3 mi) return.Time:1.5 hours.
- DECOMMISSIONED
- LE BUTTEREAU.Acadian history,bird- watching,ocean views,beautiful sunsets.Distance:1.9km(1.2 mi) loop. Time:40-50 minutes.
- CORNEY BROOK.Waterfall, Acadian hardwood forest in river canyon,wildlife.Distance 8km(5 mi) return. Time 2-2.5 hours.
- SKYLINE.A dramatic headland overlooks the rugged coast,whales,eagles,moose,bears.Fragile vegetation on headland.No dogs permitted.Distance: 8.7km(5 mi) loop.Time:2-3 hours.
- BOG.Orchids,moose,insect-eating plants.Boardwalk ideal for baby strollers,wheelchairs.Distance:0.6km(0.4 mi) loop.Time:20 minutes.
- BENJIES LAKE.Moose,boreal forest,birds.Distance:3.2 km(2 mi) return,Time:1-1.5 hours.
- FISHING COVE.Steady descent to rugged ocean coastline.Camping permit required for overnight.Distance:16km(10 mi) return-also a 4 km alternate route.Time:5-6 hours.
- MACINTOSH BROOK.Waterfall,old growth hardwood forest.Distance:2.8km(1.75 mi)return.Time: 1 hour.
- LONE SHIELING. 350 year-old sugar maple trees,a replica of a Scottich crofter's hut.Distance:0.8km(0.5 mi) loop.Time:15-20 minutes.
